The story

Maine's premier CrossFit affiliate since 2009

CrossFit MF began in 2009 like many early affiliates: in the garage with some friends. The Home of the Misfits moved into a more appropriately sized space in Portland not long after, and in 2016 we relocated to our current home on Riverside Street and have been there ever since. Regardless of time or place, the Misfit community has always been proud to be one of skilled coaches and committed individuals who value working hard, chasing progress, and having fun while we do it. If you're looking for the perfect blend of a great class experience, fitness, and community, you found it.

Why we're here

The mission

The mission of CrossFit MF is to enable our members to live long, healthy, physically independent lives. We do this by building real-world capacity and resilience, fueling our bodies with intention, and training shoulder to shoulder in a community that rejects shortcuts and embraces incremental progress.

Do it right. Do it well. Then do it again.

Core values

What we're about

Three values, one gym. They're on the wall because we mean them.
  • Good Vibes

The Misfits are a cool bunch of humans, and it's because the vibe is always high. Leave the gym happier than when you walked in.

  • Better Today

The journey is the destination. Find a small win today, then find another one tomorrow. Consistent, tedious, incremental progress is the way.

  • Our corest of core values

    Strength in Numbers

Some days you need the community, and some days the community needs you. It's a give and take, but we're always stronger together.

What an hour here looks like

We take tremendous pride in developing highly skilled coaches, writing our own programming, and running classes that strike the right balance of learning and fun. The staff brings the knowledge, everyone creates the community.
  1. Whiteboard

The Coach welcomes the group, makes any relevant community announcements, then briefs the day's workout and how to modify it for any ability level.

  2. Warm-up

We start with a general warm up to wake up muscles, joints, and nervous systems. Then coaches take you through a specific warm up with skills and drills to turn complex movements into digestible ones. Slowly but surely we add weight and intensity, all within the bounds of safe, quality movement.

  3. The Workout

Some days we hammer a tough conditioning piece, sometimes we lift heavy, and some days we do both. Intervals, sprints, lifting days, long slogs, and everything in between - this is what you come to class for. We write our own programming and have since 2009, and are continually refining it to keep it fun, effective, and engaging.

  4. Cool-down & fist bumps

Scores on the whiteboard and fist bumps during your cool down walk followed by a short stretch or foam roll ensures you can get back to it again tomorrow. We keep score because measuring and tracking progress requires objective information, and we want you to make progress. Don't worry, some days a smiley face on the board that says "I did it!" is a win and that's perfectly acceptable!

Our facility

What's in the building

HQ is 1077 Riverside Street in Portland, ME, right across from the golf course. Here's what you'll find once you're through the door.

1 of 6: The lobby

  • The main floor

A big open floor built for barbells, boxes, and most importantly, people to move. Over 50 feet of Rogue Fitness steel gives us tons of space for gymnastics work and heavy lifts.

  • Three showers

Because plenty of you go straight to work from the morning classes. On busy mornings one bathroom goes toilet-only to keep the queue moving.

  • The lobby store

Water bottles, shirts, and the rest. It runs on the honor system: take what you need, and pay via Venmo or in the StreamFit app with a card you have on file. Easy.

You don't need to be in shape to start. That's what we're for.
